Blog Interview: Susan Chesson on Wed. PM Small Group

We continue our tour today, stopping by to visit with Susan Chesson, who leads a Wednesday Night Women's Group.

Hi Susan! Thanks for joining the blog couch today. I'm looking forward to hearing about your group--seems like you are a special bunch!

We are a diverse group of women who meet every Wed evening to share hearts, pray together and study God's word through a book study. We have found common ground exploring all aspects of Christianity. We pray for each other, support each other and truly care about each other.

So how did this all get started?

I was a Table Leader for Thrive and last year when Thrive was over for the summer, the gals at my table stated that they didn't want to stop, so I offered to lead a study for them for the summer. We are still going strong!

Tell us a little more about how your group runs.

We meet every Wed evening in the Conference Room at the Hope Church Building from 7pm to 9pm. We start our book study promptly after an opening
prayer. Some brings snacks, drinks or dessert as they want to. We work out of the book until around 8:30 and start our prayer list for each other at this time. I strongly encourage everyone to be in prayer for each other that evening and throughout the week. We try to end our prayer time around 9 and are done for the night.

What book are you studying?
The book we are currently studying is Having a Mary Spirit, which was preceded by How to Live Like Mary in a Martha World.

The book includes a study guide in the back and the only cost is the book, which is $12. However, there are funds for books if necessary.

God reveals himself in everything we do - you just need to be open to see it. We've been free to share intimate details & personal prayer request knowing that it
stays within the group. We've explored the Mary & Martha story in great detail and it is changing all of us. I love that openness, vulnerability, transparency prevail week after week. God’s work is being done here. Many prayers from this group have been answered. Here's what one woman has said:
I came to this group for the sole purpose of meeting other women in the church and this has been a life changing experience for me. The Lord has done a tremendous work in my life b/c I have finally opened my heart to receive it.

What do you hope women will get from it by their participation?

Our hope is that women can feel comfortable and safe, while making new friends,
studying and learning more about God and His Word and caring for each other.
It is a fun, relaxed atmosphere, and close relationships we are developing. We are very caring, supportive and non-judgemental. This group is open to anyone who would want to join us. We all make a point to welcome newcomers and continue to care for each other as well. You can come relax with us for a night or two and see if this is something you are interested in. Once you show up – you will not be new anymore. You will be embraced.

Sounds great. How do they get in touch with you?

I can be contacted at either my cell or e-mail:

Thanks for that great information Susan, and for offering a warm experience on Wednesday Nights!
