Thrive: Fall 2009

Finding God in the Chatter

Imagine a carefree group of young girls-playing, laughing, talking. Just the girls. Simple. Fun. Beautiful. Yet as we grow, our complex nature and this broken world often crash together like a young girl falling out of a handstand. Carefree girls turn into women and start to hear voices. Voices that demand and conflict. Voices that say you are not good enough. Voices that say you must:

  • Work a job that fulfills, raise kids that behave, save time to perfect your tennis stroke and keep your hair highlights bright.

  • Talk intelligently about politics, literature, social causes and the cover of US Weekly.

  • Embrace your maturity with grace while slathering on anti-aging cream and spending hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to achieve the natural look.

  • Maintain hundreds of casual relationships and deny the truth that you feel lonelier and less known than ever before.

Have you heard those voices?

Our exposure to an ambivalent culture affects us deeply, creating confusion about how we are to live as “modern women.” We owe it to our mothers, our daughters, sisters and friends to seek the voice of truth-the voice of God.

Where is God’s voice and what, if anything, does He have to say to women? Join us this fall at Thrive for a working session between “just us girls” as we seek to hear God’s voice in the midst of all the chatter. From Eve to Mary, prepare to be surprised and challenged at the relevancy of scripture in our modern day. Thrive begins Thursday, September 17 with sessions at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Come grab a coffee and get comfortable with us . . . no homework. . .just show up! Join us any week or every week! We are already preparing a place for you.
